A project is what happens when you keep returning to the same subject long enough for it to teach you something. These are the bodies of work still in progress.

The Prairie and the Herd
TALLGRASS COUNTRY, KANSAS & OKLAHOMA
Rolling grassland, free-ranging bison, and sunrises that arrive before anyone else does. An ongoing record of one of the last places in America where the prairie still behaves like a prairie.
THE LONG PROJECT
The 105 County Project
Kansas has 105 counties. One at a time — the backroads, the barns still standing, the wildlife, and the night sky above each one. A county joins the archive only when there is a photograph and a story to go with it.

Windows of Time
BARNS, SCHOOLHOUSES & HISTORIC PLACES
Weathered wood, empty doorways, and buildings that outlasted the people who raised them. Photographed before the plains finish reclaiming them.

Beneath the Stars
NIGHTSCAPES OF THE PLAINS
Long waits in the dark beside chapels, waterfalls, and old machinery — waiting for the Milky Way to line up with something that has a story.

PLATTE RIVER, LOESS BLUFFS & BEYOND
Sandhill cranes in pastel evening light. Bald eagles over frozen marsh. The same routes, followed year after year, by birds and by a photographer keeping notes.
